Birth and Labour Support Doula

The benefits of having a Birth Doula accompany you through your pregnancy and birth cannot be understated. Several studies have demonstrated that the continuous emotional support, physical comfort, and encouragement of a birth doula has these beneficial effects:

 
 
* 25% shorter labor

* 50% reduction in the cesarean section rate

* 40% reduction in the requests for epidural anesthesia

* 30%-40% decrease in the need for forceps, vacuum extraction, pitocin and narcotics

* Greater success in establishing breastfeeding

* Decrease in the incidence of postpartum depression
 
 
Dr. Marshall Klaus, author of “Your amazing new born” states "a woman, supported by another woman, skilled at nurturing her during the birth, will birth her child perfectly and that support that nurturing the mother receives during her birth, will create in that mother a greater degree of ownership of her infant.
She will take ownership of that infant by the 3rd day instead of the ninth day and is often a better mother to that child all of it’s life! "

Birth Doula Fees

My fee structure is based in the experience level and the education I’ve taken to assist mothers in achieving the birth they want.  My up coming book “My Birth: My Way” is a testament to the many births I’ve attended and the women that have emerged from the birth experience empowered, spiritually, physically and emotionally. 

 These children of today have a lifetime ahead of them that we can’t perceive, and as parents we’ve now to prepare them. Assisting them with gentler birth experiences in my view, prepares them for their place in a kinder world, perhaps leading where others fear to go.

I bring in addition to extensive Doula & Post Partum Doula training, my skills as a Hypnotherapist, I assist you in remaining, calm, peaceful and focused during labour. I assist the father or birth partner in remaining calm, peaceful and feeling like they are an essential part of this experience as well.

Parents have had exceptional birth experiences . Since January I’ve worked with 31 births to assist them in achieving the birth they desired.  I also assist mothers and fathers in preparation for C-Section, should this be necessary, and I assist at the Section as well.

I attend the labouring family at approximately 4cm of dilation which is around the time when mom can’t talk through the surges anymore. During my time with the family at home, we’ll make our way through the surges and sensations one at a time, until the progression is far enough along to make our way to the hospital or have midwives attending the home if it’s a waterbirth/ or home birth

Before active labour actually begins, (4cm)  the mom and dad are encouraged to sleep, rest and relax.

In every case, the health, welfare of mom and infant are paramount to the success of the birth experience.

Kathy Welter is an Experienced Birth Doula. HypnoBirthing training is provided before the birth in five separate classes over as many months.

Please note, should the labour exceed 12 hours, additional fee will be assessed and is agreed on at the time of booking. Fee for Birth Labour Support will be advised at time of booking.
